Turks and Caicos: Things to Know Before the Perfect Wedding

What more splendid way could a newly married couple begin their lives together than stay in paradise? Turks and Caicos, TCI as her friends know her, has not only mastered the art of delighting guests beyond belief, TCI has also mastered the role of accommodating romance. The unofficial destiny of romance masterfully accommodates: Honeymoon, anniversaries, and marriage ceremonies.

If planning a honeymoon consider that most, if not all, resorts, inns, cottages, guesthouses plus many hotels have honeymoon suites and packages. Be sure to ask as many have special amenities for that once in a lifetime moment.

Be mindful a residency period of 72 hours before an application for a marriage license is required for TCI. The application needs to be submitted to the Registrar General for Special Licenses which will need to be submitted by an official TCI marriage officer who will be performing the ceremony. This is most often a minister or pastor. A $50.00 license fee must accompany the application. Once the application for a marriage license is granted, the wedding can take place any time, thereafter. Remember, though, it takes 2 to 3 days to process the license after it has been granted. The marriage license application has been granted.

All original documents must be presented to the Turks and Caicos Marriage Officer by the person completing the forms. These original documents include: Passport, original birth certificate, and proof of marital status for a single sworn affidavit.

Important to know, also, special requirements exists for those who have been divorced or widowed as well as those who have changed their names or have been adopted. If under the age of 21, consent of one or both parents/guardians in the form of an affidavit stamped by a notary public must be presented. Whenever presenting marital documents, include a letter stating both parties’ occupations, marital status, age at most recent birthday, present address, and fathers’ full name. Please be advised that any passports or documentation written in a language other than English should be translated in advance and notarized by the applicable consulate.
